Session Type:
Oral
This symposium will feature five awardees selected by the ACS Committee on Environment and Sustainability (ACS-CES) that recognizes educators who have made exemplary contributions to the incorporation of sustainability into chemical education. The winners, to be determined by December 1, were selected from over twenty nominations and will represent a diverse group of national and international educators. They will be invited and funds provided for travel to attend the symposium and share their novel innovations in the classroom or laboratory that advance one or more topics of sustainable development, the UN SDGs, circularity, green chemistry principles, and/or or systems thinking. Though an industry-academia collaboration was not a criteria for the award, presenters will be asked to share how their curriculum prepares students for success in industry or their future careers. An objective of the symposium, besides honoring the recipients, is to encourage attending educators and participants to consider how they can incorporate green chemistry and sustainability into their own classrooms. The awardees may already have a connection to industry, be asked to consider how a collaboration could be established or envision a case study connecting classroom to industrial applications. The symposium will be interactive with opportunity for sharing ideas and creative curriculum development.
